Once you complete your active orthodontic treatment, we'll remove your braces. Dr. Wiesemann will determine what type of retainer you need and how long you'll need to wear it.
Retainers are utilized to hold your teeth in their new positions until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt. This step in the process is called retention.

As a general rule, your retainers should be worn at all times, with the exception of eating and brushing your teeth.
Your retainer should also be removed when participating in sports that require a mouthguard or while swimming.
After 12 months of full-time wear, Dr. Wiesemann may revise your retention treatment, allowing the retainer to strictly be worn at night.
You must wear your retainer as instructed; otherwise, your teeth may move toward their original positions, and the benefit of wearing your braces will be lost.
